Efcubed Photography bio picture

Welcome to the Efcubed Photography Blog!

Roger A. Dallman Jr.    Roger started in photography in 1979, as a secondary job in the Army.  He shot "grip and grins" and Army events.  He began shooting portraits and weddings on the side for extra camera gear money.  He won several photo contests and an Army journalism award.  After career assignment changes, he put the cameras aside and sold his darkroom equipment. In 2006, he bought his first digital camera before a trip to Europe and was hooked again.

Today he is a dedicated Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop user-advocate and NAPP member.  He is active in photography groups and teaches digital darkroom techniques.  He prefers to shoot portaits away from seamless paper and static lighting.  He is also a photo retoucher and restores old photos - a handy skill when working on his genealogy hobby.

Mark B. Segal.    Mark started shooting when he was 13 and has done it off and on since then.  As a Navy brat and then Naval Officer, I got to go to interesting places.  I wish I had taken my camera more often.  I love the way the camera allows you to dissect the world and shape what people see of it.  Photoshop and Lightroom are great tools to help capture what you thought you saw from behind the lens.

I love helping people salvage and restore their photographic memories as links to their past.  The patience and dedication needed are usually far beyond what the images are worth, except to the person who owns the picture.  Seeing the smile or tears from when you've brought back an image from the cracked, torn and faded pile is a reward in and of itself.

It’s Time for Photoshop World!!!!

Roger and I have written about what incredible resources the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP) are for aspiring creative artists.  Just the discounts alone from becoming a member are more than worth the $99 annual membership fee.

Twice each year, in the spring on the East Coast and the fall in Lost Wages, they hold an amazing event called Photoshop World—do you hear the trumpet fanfare?  It’s coming up, and we are headed down to Orlando, FL, for a working vacation.  Working, because typically we spend 12-18 hours taking amazing classes, drooling over the latest equipment from all the vendors on the exhibition floor, and attending Midnight Madness, so it’s not much vacation. This will be my 4th time, and I have learned some amazing lessons each time.

Thanks heavens this year it’s in Florida.  While I do love Boston, I am more than ready for some sunshine and warmth.  Roger and I wandered around the North End last year and took a side trip to Concord to catch these pictures last year.

This year we managed to sign up to attend one of the coolest Pre-conference workshops- a Photo Safari.  This will be led by two of our heroes, Joe McNally and Moose Peterson.   Joe often shoots for a little magazine called National Geographic and is a wizard with all types of flash and lighting.

Now, the cost is always an issue, but folks the workbook you get contains every course from every instructor and is the size of the NYC phone book.  More importantly, you get to learn from the true giants in both photography and Photoshop.  As an added bonus, you meet people from all over the world who share the passion and commitment to this amazing art.

Moose is one of the world’s best wildlife photographers as well as a founder for the Digital Landscape Workshop

We will be shooting in Ybor City and will post any decent results we get in our first blog after the show.

“Get ready to experience the magic of Ybor City, commonly referred to as Tampa’s Latin Quarter! From the smell of roasting Cuban coffee in the morning to the rhythms of Latin music late into the night, Ybor City provides a feast for the senses. Founded by Vicente Martinez-Ybor as a cigar-manufacturing center, Ybor City is one of only two National Historic Landmark Districts in the Sunshine State. With its red brick buildings, wrought iron balconies, eclectic shops, old cigar-making plants historic museums and hot dancing spots, it’s hard not to love Ybor City’s old-world charm and appreciate its rich heritage.”

It’s not too late to sign up and head down there.   Look for us, we will be wearing our brand new EFCubed shirts.
